Moments of Truth

Toastmasters' six-moment club self-assessment — a guided look at where a club delights or disappoints members, with a one-page plan to improve.

What is Moments of Truth?

Moments of Truth is a Toastmasters program for evaluating club quality through five key member touchpoints. Each module identifies a "moment" where the club either delights or disappoints — and gives you a path to make every meeting better.

First Impressions

The first meeting a guest attends sets their decision about whether to come back. Is the venue easy to find? Are guests greeted at the door? Does the President know everyone's name?

Membership Orientation

What happens after someone joins? Are they paired with a mentor? Do they get a walkthrough of Pathways? Is someone explaining the roles?

Fellowship, Variety & Communication

Do members feel connected to each other beyond the meeting itself? Are meetings predictable in the bad way (same speakers, same topics)? Does the club communicate between meetings?

Program Planning & Meeting Organization

Are agendas filled in advance? Is the VPE planning ahead? Do meetings start and end on time? Do members get scheduled into roles fairly?

Membership Strength

Is the club bringing in new members? Are existing members renewing? What's the trajectory?

Achievement Recognition

When a member completes a project or wins a contest, does the club celebrate? Is there a culture of recognition?

How to use it

Most clubs run Moments of Truth as a guided self-assessment with the area director once a year. The output is a 1-page action plan: 2-3 specific moments to improve in the next quarter. Programs that don't get attention rarely improve; this is what makes Moments of Truth useful — it forces a club to pick where to focus.

When your club has completed a Moments of Truth module, submit the record so the District can recognize your work.
